Potentially why California does not care to regulate for-profit schools

while the economy is leaving many young people without job prospects and community colleges struggle with reduced funding, more suspicions circle around those that would be the most able to help the generation behind us.

the article by Michael Hiltzik – “Is UC regent’s vision for higher education clouded by his investments?” and his blog entry, “The university, for-profit and not-for-profit” raise appropriate questions. Remember too, that the for-profit education sector was minimally regulated (e.g. self-regulated) from July 1, 2007 to July 2008 and unregulated from July 2008 when BVVPE was shut down while state legislators fought over the details in a potential bill until late 2009. on October 11, 2009, the state passed a bill and formed the BPPE which got up and running through emergency regulations at the beginning of 2010.

doesn’t this seem familiar? check out this article by Dan Golden which reminds us that it is.
